Final Call For Flood Fund

Cumbria-based SMEs worst hit by November’s heavy flooding still have time to bid for grants from a £1 million emergency fund.

Applications to the Northwest Regional Development Agency’s special Flood Recovery Grants Scheme must be made by 28 February.

The programme can offer companies affected by the flooding funding worth up to £10,000 to help them get “back on the road to recovery”.

Grants can cover hiring consultancy assistance from accountants, legal experts, architects and designers to help the firm put in place plans for clean-up and recovery. They can also cover six months interest on any business loans taken out and any training costs to ensure staff can use new equipment properly.

The programme is open to applications from Cumbria-based SMEs that:

  • Had started trading before 17 November 2009.
  • Were severely affected by the November 2009 floods.
  • Are able to demonstrate viability prior to the flooding or are on track to become so within one year.
  • Intend to continue trading and to maintain existing levels of jobs for a period of three years.

Unveiling the fund back in November, Steven Broomhead, chief executive of NWDA, said:

“The devastating impact that the flooding has had on small and medium businesses is clear to see. The funding is aimed at easing cash-flow issues and getting businesses back on the road to recovery as soon as possible.”
