Nova Welsh Art Prize Offers Funding for Young Visual Artists

A biennial arts prize for Welsh visual artists aged 35 and under.

Nova aims to support and promote excellence in emerging Welsh art by offering artists the opportunity to have their work seen by a panel of high profile selectors. Supported artists will exhibit their work at as part of the inaugural Nova exhibition in November 2017.

Entrants may submit up to three artworks. There is no limit in the medium or form of artwork. They could include sound, moving images, two-dimensional and performance art.

The following support is being provided through the scheme:


Selected artists work will be displayed in the Nova 2017 exhibition Royal Cambrian Academy (RCA), Conwy.


  • £1,000 NOVA Artist of the Year 2017. Award for best overall artwork.
  • £500 Young NOVA Award 2017. Awarded for best overall artwork by an artist under 25 years old.
  • £100 NOVA Peoples Prize 2017. Awarded by popular vote from exhibition visitors.


A number of Artist Mentoring Bursaries will be available. Selected artists will receive mentoring from an RCA member comprising creative and career advice.

The scheme is open to applications from Welsh visual artists aged 35 and under.

There are two deadlines: Free Early Bird Entry: 21 July 2017. Standard Entry (£10 fee applies): 22 July to 18 September 2017.
