Burton and South Derbyshire College Learners Launch ‘Enterprise Project’

The 'Enterprising Project' has been launched to assist learners in developing enterprising skills and is open to Burton and South Derbyshire College learners.

Supported by Mencap, the project gives learners the opportunity to develop enterprising skills by getting them to consider ways that they could work together to build team skills and develop ideas that could eventually be made available to purchase.

The ideas developed for the launch event saw Plants grown by the learners, the baking of dog biscuits and a variety of decorated stones and accessories for sale. Another idea involved a nail art stand where learners spruced up the nails of those supporting the event for a chargeable fee.

Kam Kalirai, Programme Area Manager for Foundation Learning stated:

"I am incredibly proud of the learners for their efforts leading up to and during the launch of the 'Enterprise Project'. The learners utilised their enterprising skills and saw their ideas develop into products, which they then went on to sell at the launch event. I would like to thank Mencap for the significant part they played in this project and all those who supported the launch."

'Enterprise Project' was a follow on from the successful 'Inspire Me' project also ran with Mencap for BSDC Learners. The aim of the project was to assist those aged 16-25 to gain new skills such as, accessing employment, volunteering, community work and looking at their range of opportunities for the future. With these new enterprising skills, the learners have benefited from gaining new skills, which form part of their overall development.
